Motion Like Dance was founded on the 13th April 2009. The Company was then approached by Ann Summers to create a new vision for night life events. Company director Mark Lee Davies worked closely with Layla Boothby and her team on artistic vision to create the ultimate theme night!
Funkin In The Sexy 70's was the creative result of Motion Like Dance along side Ann Summers, which presented the MLD's debut performance which was held in Flares Nightclub in Guildford in August 2009. This event was a major success for all parties involved and since then MLD has been approached to perform at many other nightclubs and events.
Motion Like Dance was also short listed in the top 12 dance acts in March 2010 in " The Get On Stage Competition", which is a part of the Move It Dance exhibition held in London.
In May 2010 MLD launched the film "STREET DANCE" at the Odeon cinema in Guildford by performing two exclusive sets!
June 2010 saw MLD perform as one of the main acts on the dance stage at The Surrey Arts Festival. MLD exclusively gave a sneak peak of the Motion Like Dance show by performing Act three "Dawn Of The Disco".
August 2010 - MLD's debut production MOTION LIKE DANCE receives sponsorship from clothing label LeggingQ.
The company performed their first full length production in October 2010 at The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre/Mill Studio in Surrey/Guildford. MOTION LIKE DANCE - The Show held two performances in the Mill Studio, one of which was a sell out! The show included five acts; The Underworld, Worldwide Travel, Dawn Of The Disco, Lets Fall In Love? & Hollywood. The show was an incredible success and attracted audiences of dance enthusiasts, theatre lovers and the general public, all of which were thoroughly entertained.....
Early November 2010 MLD held open dance auditions and the company increased dramatically in size. During November MLD was also joined by guest choreographer "Rachael Fraiser" who gave the dancers an insight into Cunningham and Graham dance technique through a series of workshops.
In December 2010 the company started working on their second production "NEWS FLASH 24". The concept of the show was about how the media spins different stories to their viewers. The show was packaged as a live TV show to the theatre audience creating a new performance with a "difference". NEWS FLASH 24 was comprised of themes that relate to the everyday typical type of person: the recession, 21st century sex, cancer, drug addiction, fashion, fame and weather, all wrapped in the News Flash 24 media package.
June 2011 saw company director Mark Lee Davies become a guest judge at the Dance For Life regional finals. MLD also made a guest appearance at the event to promote News Flash 24. This one performance boosted MLD's profile and fan base putting News Flash 24 as one of the must see shows in Surrey!
News Flash 24 debuted at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre - Mill Studio in July 2011 with two performances, one of which sold out! The show left audiences stunned, creating positive hype and controversy around the company. Hence to say NEWS FLASH 24 will be back in the very near future but even bigger and better - watch this space......
